IPP-Sponsored Driver Christian Eckes Finishes 3rd at Mid-Ohio!
It’s been an exciting year of NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series for us over at Instacoat Premium Products!
For those who don’t know, IPP is helping to sponsor Christian Eckes of Bill McAnally Racing, Inc.
Our driver Christian has had quite the season this year: this third-place result at the Mid-Ohio makes his fifth podium finish of the season!
Not only was it his fifth podium finish of the season, but this race was, in fact, a career highlight for Christian!
This race marked Eckes’ best-career road course finish in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (NCTS).
A Rainy Race Day in Morrow County, Ohio
Our No. 19 Napa Auto Care Chevrolet Silverado driver had quite the uphill battle that Friday afternoon.
Facing 67 laps of steady rain and potential thunderstorms, Eckes & the team took to course with a cautious approach that paid off!
Eckes kept his hold on the podium finish with a fifth-place position by the end of lap 20.
A Quick Change of Scenery
Following the first stage break, the MHR racing team decided to exchange Eckes’ rain tires for slicks after the skies cleared up.
Moving into stage two, the race restarted on lap 22 with a rapidly drying track and an equally rapid clearing sky.
We are proud to report that Christian rose to the occasion and held his own, ending stage 2 in the fourth position as lap 40 closed out.
Final Adjustments
Entering the final leg of the race, MHR Crew Chief Charles Denike repaired the front fender and tweaked the rear suspension to ensure a tight grip on the track.
With a fifth-place starting position, Eckes held steady until a chance collision between the fourth & third place drivers offered him the chance to take the 3rd position.
Following a few restarts, Christian briefly took the second position before settling into third on lap 63.
In the end, Christian held that third-place position and drove past the checkered flag to claim his fifth consecutive podium finish of the season.
Not The End of The Road for No. 19
At IPP, we are incredibly proud of Christian’s season and this specific race!
As for what Christian thought of his Friday afternoon performance:
“Proud of the effort all day by our NAPA Auto Care team. It was definitely a big challenge with starting off in the rain, then the track drying out, and staying on top of everything as the track changed. We had a really good long-run truck today, but we just needed a little more. Our team put a strong, consistent weekend together. We’ll move on to Pocono and try to get another win there.”
